What's Next?

Thanks, everyone, for joining us this year!  And a special thanks to our many guest contributors, who have enriched the discussion tremendously. It's time for us to take a break, but even when we're not posting, we'll be reading upcoming beginning reader titles.  Here are some of the ones we're excited about:

Series are the staples of the beginning reader world, and we're looking forward to some new entries in existing series:

  • David Adler's Mo Jackson series will see two new volumes in 2018, Pass the Ball, Mo in January, and Kick It, Mo in September
  • Jan Thomas' Giggle Gang added My Toothbrush is Missing and My Friends Make Me Happy in January
  • Jonathan Fenske's squirrels are begging, Please, No More Nuts in January
  • Holiday House will add several titles to their I Like to Read series, including Dance, Dance, Dance by Ethan Long and Pig and Cat are Pals by Douglas Florian in February
  • Elephant and Piggie Like Reading The Itchy Book by LeUyen Pham in May, as well as a yet-unnamed fall title

In addition, some Geisel Medal and Honor-winning authors and illustrators have new titles coming out:

  • Nobody's Duck by Mary Sullivan in February
  • This Story Is for You by Greg Pizzoli in April
  • Square by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen in May
  • Hi, Jack and Jack at Bat by Mac Barnett and Greg Pizzoli in August
  • A Parade of Elephants by Kevin Henkes in September
  • Blue by Laura Vaccaro Seeger in September
  • Unlimited Squirrels: I Lost My Tooth by Mo Willems in October

Looking for more?  Here are some other titles that are on our radar:
  • My Family Four Floors Up by Caroline Stutson and Celia Krampien
  • Peter & Ernesto: A Tale of Two Sloths by Graham Annable
  • Meet Yasmin by Saadia Faruqi and Hatem Aly
We'd love to hear what beginning reader books you're looking forward to this year! You can comment here, or email us. Happy reading!
